Comments on the New State Aid Law in Serbia in the Context of Serbia’s Accession to the EU

On 8 July 2009, together with a new competition law, the Serbian Parliament adopted the Law on State Aid Control (the “Law”). This Law applies as of 1 January 20101. Adopting this Law is consistent with a number of activities being taken by the Republic of Serbia (“Serbia”) in its efforts to harmonise Serbian law with, and approximate to, the European Union (EU) acquis communautaire.
