This article discusses the European Commission’s revised Guidelines on regional State aid, applicable as from 2022, and makes a comparison with the previous rules, highlighting the main differences. It explains the key elements of the revision process and provides background to the establishment of the regional aid maps. Finally, this article provides an overview of the eligibility and compatibility rules for regional aid under those guidelines, including an illustration by way of selected case practice.
